Description
Provides support to those touched by a diagnosis of breast cancer. Works to prioritize access to information and care through education and advocacy and to empower women and men to participate fully in decisions relating to breast cancer.

Breast Cancer 101 (BC101) allows a person who is newly diagnosed to have a one-on-one conversation with trained staff about her (or his) individual diagnosis. BC101 is the chance to stop and take a breath, to sit down and talk to someone who can help newly diagnosed individuals review choices as they move through this part of their breast cancer journey.

Peer mentorship is offered through PALS (Peer Advocates Lending Support), a unique program in which a newly-diagnosed individual is connected to a breast cancer survivor who had a similar diagnosis, surgery, treatment, and recovery plan. Matches are based on other life factors which help better connect mentor and mentee, with the goal of helping those who are just starting the breast cancer journey to form a meaningful connection with someone who has "been there," and who can provide empowerment and support.

Offers breast cancer survivor round tables and educational seminars in counties surrounding Monroe County. Seminar topics range from nutrition for breast cancer survivors to the role of chemotherapy before and after surgery.

The BCCR facility in Rochester offers supportive networking groups; Healing Arts programming (e.g., Gentle Yoga, writing workshops, meditation, etc.); and evening educational seminars. Also offers a four session program on surviving and thriving on Aromatase Inhibitors. Also hosts a bi-monthly lunch for individuals living with metastatic breast cancer, called Common Ground. This bi-monthly lunch is also available to any woman diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer. RSVPs for Common Ground are appreciated.
