Family Psychoeducation
Description
An online 6 week course that helps family members of post-deployment veterans understand mental illness and the many systems that affect families coping with difficulties of adjustment, including PTSD, depression, and other illnesses.
Topics covered include diagnosis, medication, stress management and family support, working with providers, finding services, advocating for loved ones, the legal system, and navigating the VA system.
Course is taught by trained teachers who have a military family member and are familiar with the challenges of both the veteran systems and mental illness. Class is offered several times a year.

Hours
2.5 hours, one day per week for 6 weeks. Call for scheduled dates and times; scheduled several times per year.
Eligibility
Adult family members or caregivers of veterans who are coping with a loved one's mental illness post-deployment/re-entry/transition; no one is denied membership due to financial hardship.

Intake Process
Call for referral for pre-registration; must commit to attending all six class sessions.
Program Fees
Program is free. Membership is available to individuals, households, and those in financial need. Annual membership includes local chapter, NAMI NYS, and NAMI national. To join, go to: www.namibuffalony.org
