Tax Preparation Assistance
Description
IRS-certified students from the UB School of Management provide free tax preparation services to individuals and families with annual incomes of $67,000 or less. Volunteers will prepare tax filings for 2024 only.
The service is provided by the IRS-sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program with volunteers from the UB chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, an international honors organization for accounting and finance students, and the UB Accounting Association.

Available on a first come, first served basis February 15th - April 6th, 2025: Sunday & Saturday, 9:30am-4:30pm, except for March 22nd & 23rd, closed.

Eligibility
Open to anyone whose 2024 household income was $67,000 or less. Volunteers will prepare tax filings for 2024 only.

Intake Process
Walk in; first come, first served. Slots are limited, so arrive early. Wait times may vary.
Bring the following documents:
- Proof of identification (state-issued photo ID for each adult, such as valid driver’s license or state-issued ID card)
- Social Security cards for you, your spouse and dependents (not a photocopy)
- Birthdates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return
- Wage and earning statements (Form W-2, W-2G) from all employers
- Unemployment compensation statements (1099-G), if applicable
- Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)
- A copy of last year’s federal and state returns, if available
- Proof of bank account routing and account numbers for direct deposit, such as a blank check
- To file taxes electronically on a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms
- Total paid for day care and provider's Social Security Number or business Employer Identification Number
- IRS Letters 6419 (Advanced Child Tax Credit Payments) and 6475 (Economic Impact [stimulus] Payment)
