Description
Divided into three offices.
The Office of the Inspector General is responsible for investigating complaints concerning allegations of corruption, fraud, criminal activity, conflicts of interest, and abuse in any entity under its jurisdiction, which includes all executive branch agencies, departments, divisions, officers, boards and commissions, and most public authorities and public benefit corporations, as well as state-funded infrastructure investments and projects.
The Office of the Welfare Inspector General is responsible for conducting investigations of fraud, abuse, and illegal acts perpetrated within local social services districts and by beneficiaries of public assistance services. Also recommends and monitors policies relating to the prevention and detection of fraud and abuse, conducts proactive initiatives aimed at the early detection and prevention of fraud, and partners with law enforcement and local social services districts to investigate and prosecute fraudulent schemes.
The Office of the Workers' Compensation Fraud Inspector General is responsible for investigating violations of the laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of the workers' compensation system. Also provides investigatory oversight of the State's Paid Family Leave program.
The Offices conduct a multi-faceted outreach program which includes trainings and presentations to educate state agencies, insurers, administrative law judges, welfare investigators, social services departments, large retail stores, and other professional organizations about the role of the Inspector General, along with ethical standards, state employees' responsibility to report fraud, corruption, criminal activity and abuse, and the prevention of workers' compensation and welfare fraud.
