Description
Works to conserve, improve, and protect New York's natural resources and environment and to prevent, abate, and control water, land, and air pollution in order to enhance the health, safety, and welfare of the people of the state and their overall economic and social well-being.
Also works to protect wildlife, issues hunting and fishing licenses, and provides hunter education.
Besides for its headquarters in Albany, DEC's coverage is divided into nine regions across New York State, each with its own headquarters and additional sub-offices. Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Niagara, Wyoming, and Allegany Counties are covered by Region 9. Genesee and Orleans Counties are covered by Region 8.
