Description
Provides small, individualized class environments for students who are deaf, hard of hearing, have communication disorders, and/or have multiple disabilities. Provides a Language Rich Environment (LRE) utilizing American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken and written English. Instruction follows New York State Education Department standards.
Related services, including Speech, Physical and Occupational Therapies, and counseling are available. Audiological services such as hearing tests and minor device repair (hearing aids, cochlear implants, BaHa’s, etc.) are provided on-site by a licensed audiologist.
Classes in Art, Computer Technologies, Drama, Journalism, and Music are also offered. St. Mary’s has a strong after-school program that includes tutoring, sports and community-based activities. A five-day residential program is available.

Eligibility
Children eligible for 6th grade or higher, up to age 21, in need of a Language Rich Total Communication Environment due to hearing loss, deafness, or multiple disabilities.

Intake Process
Tour the school. Apply to the New York State Education Department with student’s Audiogram/Speech & Language Report for permission to have St. Mary's complete the full evaluation process. Discuss placement at Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings of your local school district.
