Description
St. Mary's School for the Deaf provides students from birth to 21 years of age with hearing loss, communication disorders, and/or multiple disabilities a small class milieu in a Total Communication, Language Rich Environment (LRE). Instruction, following New York State Education Department standards, is provided using Total Communication - spoken, signed and written language - to meet students' individual communication needs. Related services, including Speech, Physical and Occupational Therapies, as well as counseling are available. Audiological services such as hearing tests and minor device repair (hearing aids, cochlear implants, etc.) are provided on-site by licensed audiologists. Academic based "Specials," such as Art, Drama and Music are also offered. SMSD has a strong after school program that includes tutoring, sports, and community based activities. A 5 day residential program is also available.
