Description
Provides public defense in criminal matters as well as certain Family Court matters in which there is a legal right to assigned counsel if the client cannot afford to retain an attorney. Family Court matters include the following only: custody, visitation, respondents in paternity actions, respondents in alleged abuse/neglect matters, and respondents in matters alleging willful violation of prior support order.

ACP also provides pre-petition legal advice for families going through a Child Protective Services investigation; see separate listing for Pre-Petition Child Protective Service (CPS) Legal Advice Program.

A client may also be assigned to a social worker upon request, who can assist with transportation, housing, and other basic needs.

Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm.

Eligibility
Residents of Erie County.

Counsel is provided without cost to those individuals who qualify under application guidelines.
