Youth Courts
Description
Provides a voluntary alternative for youth who face disciplinary action through school or law enforcement. Youth admit to the charge prior to appearing before a Court of peers. Tribunal Youth Court consists of 3 teen judges who listen to both sides of the issues and determine a sentence based upon what is heard. Goal is to improve youth citizenship skills and decrease problematic behavior. Respondents are provided an opportunity to learn from their mistakes. Parents and guardians are involved in the entire process. The sentencing is designed on an individual basis. There is no permanent record of the incident once completed. All proceedings are confidential.
