Description
Provides financial assistance to residents of Genesee County who are diagnosed with cancer to help relieve some of the monetary burden caused by a cancer diagnosis and treatment. The money can be used for medical co-pays, prescriptions, mileage reimbursement, medical equipment/supplies, prosthetics, compression sleeves, or any need that is related to the client's cancer and treatment. Patients can be reimbursed by submitting proof of payment, or payments will be made to an authorized doctor or hospital for cancer-related appointments. GCA works directly with patients and referrals from friends, diagnostic/treatment centers or physician.
In addition offers a free program called Simply Beautiful, designed to help cancer patients deal with hair loss and skin changes by providing individual, personalized care in a serene environment. Licensed cosmetologists will work with individuals to make their wigs feel like an effortless seamless part of themselves by custom cutting and styling each wig, as well as guiding how to wear, care for and style them. In tandem, with this, Simply Renewed is an alternative option that allows experienced estheticians and nail technicians to provide patients with a soothing spa treatment, aiming to offer an experience that fosters both physical and emotional well-being. From facials and skincare to revitalizing hand/foot treatments, this spa experience encourages healthy skin while providing a renewed feeling.
Offers a loan closet to patients. Items not available in the closet may be bought or rented from an approved medical equipment company.
Financial assistance may be used to aid in the purchase of items not covered by insurance. Funds may be provided to cancer patients receiving home health services. The amount of assistance available depends upon successful fundraising each year, and is therefore subject to financial limitations. Patients may re-apply each year during active treatment.
Also provides information on helpful services available in the surrounding area, and offers access to free resources such as a local support group and biblical counseling for cancer patients and their families. Offers informational brochures and booklets to patients regarding their diagnosis.
