Description
Provides financial assistance to residents of Genesee County who are diagnosed with cancer to help relieve some of the monetary burden caused by a cancer diagnosis and treatment. The money can be used for medical co-pays, prescriptions, mileage reimbursement, medical equipment/supplies, prosthetics, compression sleeves, or any need that is related to the client's cancer and treatment. Patients can be reimbursed by submitting proof of payment, or payments will be made to an authorized doctor or hospital for cancer-related appointments. GCA works directly with patients and referrals from any diagnostic/treatment center or doctor.

Offers a free monthly program called Simply Beautiful, which provides free wig and make-up consultation with local, licensed hairdressers and an aesthetician. Program is designed to deal with hair loss and skin changes, and to provide helpful ideas for make-up application to lessen the impact and difficulties experienced by cancer patients. Wigs, hats, scarves, and turbans are available in the office. If a wig in stock does not meet the patient's needs, GCA will assist with the purchase of one.

Offers a loan closet for cancer patients. Items not available in the closet may be bought or rented from an approved medical equipment company. Financial assistance may be available to aid in the purchase of items not covered by insurance. Funds may be provided to cancer patients receiving home health services, but this funding depends upon successful fundraising each year, and is therefore subject to financial limitations. Patients may re-apply each year during active treatment.

Also provides information on helpful services available in the surrounding area, and offers access to free resources such as a local support group and biblical counseling for cancer patients and their families. Offers informational brochures and booklets to patients regarding their diagnosis.
