Description
The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is a proven way to prevent diabetes in people who have pre-diabetes or are at risk for diabetes. By making small structured lifestyle changes, participants reduce their risk for type 2 diabetes. The Lifestyle Coach works with participants to lose weight through healthy eating, increased physically activity, and learning to recognize and overcome barriers to these. Classes are conducted at various locations throughout Niagara County.
Some of the risk factors for becoming diabetic include having a baby weighing more than 9 pounds at birth or having had gestational diabetes during a past pregnancy, having a sibling or parent with diabetes, being overweight, getting little or no exercise in a typical day, or being 45 years of age or older.
