Sweat Equity Programs
Description
Provides home ownership opportunities to low income families who do not have the income to qualify for a conventional mortgage and who are currently living in poor conditions. Homes are built with help from volunteers (when possible) using funds from grants and donations after potential homeowners complete certification through a qualification program. Applications for homes are only open when Habitat has secured enough funding to build each home. If an applicant does not qualify, they are notified in writing. Applicants may apply again at a later date if their circumstances change and there is a home being built at that time. Potential homeowners are required to complete 500 "sweat equity" hours in order to qualify. Habitat partner families cannot move in until all hours are completed and verified.
