Senior Ride Programs
Description
A not-for-profit agency providing a special system of transportation to enhance the quality of life and independence of Amherst residents aged 55 years and older. Offers transportation for medical appointments, Amherst Senior Center programs, and grocery shopping; see more details below.
Medical Transportation
- Regular Van: Curb-to-curb service available to and from scheduled medical appointments. Helpers may accompany riders at no additional cost; see fees below.
- Wheelchair Van: Prioritized for medical appointments within the Town of Amherst and neighboring communities. Riders must be accompanied by a helper.
Senior Center Transportation: Two scheduled morning pickups are available for trips to the Amherst Senior Center. The first run is scheduled between 8am-8:55am, and the second is scheduled between 9:45am-10:30am. Return van service from the Senior Center to riders' homes is scheduled between 1pm-3pm.
Grocery Shopping Transportation: Available for travel to local grocery stores. No wheelchair service available.

Eligibility
Town of Amherst residents aged 55 and older who are residing in a private home or apartment and are in need of transportation for medical appointments, Amherst Senior Center programs, or grocery shopping.
Intake Process
Medical Transportation: Call Monday-Friday, 9am-2pm to make a reservation and have the following information available.
- Date and time of appointment
- Address of destination facility
- Doctor's name or department
- Your phone number and address
Senior Center Transportation: Call to schedule pickup.
Grocery Shopping Transportation: Call to see whether you are eligible.

Program Fees
Medical Transportation: Fees for regular van service range between $10-$25 per round trip and fees for wheelchair van service range from $30-$70 per round trip, depending on the destination. Costs are subject to change. If funding is an issue, please contact Senior Outreach Services (SOS) at 716-636–3070 for a confidential discussion of options.
Senior Center Transportation: No fees, but a suggested contribution of $3 per one-way or $6 per round trip is appreciated. Contributions are voluntary.
